No Raise on Electric Bills for Algiers

Algiers last spike in their electric bill came in 2013 after not seeing a spike in over 20 years. In 2015 Algiers was added to Entergy New Orleans customer service area and the company originally proposed another increase in July to compensate the cost of providing electricity to the west bank.

The proposal, which city council openly criticized, wanted to raise the base rate by $22 per month in the west bank. This was questioned because of the huge effect it would have on the west bank.  On the east bank customers would only see a $4 month increase for customers who averaged a use of 1,000 kilowatt-hours per billing period amounting to 13 cents per day while the west bank’s $22 per month increase amounts to 73 cents per day.

The original proposal has been withdrawn and a revised proposal will be submitted according to Rod West, Entergy Corp. Group President of Utility Operations. City Councilwoman Helena Moreno expressed, “I felt that the starting point on the negotiations was extremely troubling. We were simply too far off.”
